Road accident kills two high officials in Manikganj
Manikganj, Bangladesh (BBN)- Secretary of Women and Children Affairs Ministry Razia Begum and BSCIC Chairman Siddiqur Rahman were killed in a tragic road accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway Saturday morning.

The accident occurred when a bus from opposite direction hit their Pajero jeep at Uthuli-Paturia turning, leaving both of them critically injured, police said.

They were rushed to Uthuli Upazila Health Complex at first and shifted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital as their condition deteriorated. The duty doctors declared them dead as soon as they were taken to the hospital, police confirmed.

Road accidents are common in Bangladesh and kill more than 5,000 people each year. Shoddy highways, lax enforcement of traffic rules and commercial truck drivers' disregard for road safety are blamed for most of the accidents.
